mission at First Presbyterian
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;
and you will be my witnesses
in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and Samaria,
and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)

Each Christian is called to be a witness of Jesus Christ.  Whether at home, at work, or at school, we are called to live out our faith in word and deed.  Mission is not a program for the Church.  It must be a way of life.  Still, there remain many ministries of witness that we support collectively as a congregation.  Some are listed here.   Also, be sure to check out First Presbyterian's latest mission news.

Local Witness

crossBibles for Hope
In 2006, a ten-year-old girl in Vernon, Texas had a vision to distribute Bibles to those in need.  Through letters and word of mouth, Bibles for Hope became a reality.  The organization raised funds and then distributed Bibles to hospitals and correctional facilities.  It is exciting for our congregation to support an organization started, organized, and administered by our children.

Food and clothing donations meet the immediate basic needs of families.  Monetary donations provide financial aid to families for utilities, shelter, medical expenses, etc.  USSV began in 1994 in response to the overwhelming needs of the community by an ecumenical group of church women.  Our congregation provides monthly donations of food and gives annual financial contributions.  In addition, some of members volunteer their time.  Check out USSV's current needs.
