All About Pack 87
Pack 87 is Chartered by the First Presbyterian Church of Vernon, TX. We are part of the Greenbelt District of the Northwest Texas Council of the Boy Scouts of America. There are at least two Den Leaders for each Den and all of the leaders are volunteer parents who love our Scouts and want them to have a terrific Scouting experience. The Northwest Texas Council Office supplies training for our leaders.
The Cub Scout Pack is made up of boys in the first through fifth grades. Tiger Cubs are first graders and participate with their adult partners at each meeting. Wolves are second graders, Bears are third graders, Webelos I are fourth graders and Webelos II are fifth graders. They all participate in their den meetings with their Den Leaders. Parents are always welcome at all meetings.

All of the Dens get together with their families for one Pack Meeting per month where the boys have a chance to show what they have learned in their Den meetings; present the flag ceremony; receive awards they have earned in the past month and have a lot of fun.

When a boy joins Pack 87 he is required to pay the annual registration fee, insurance and Boys Life subscription. After the first year, the Pack pays all of these fees as well as other Pack expenses including patches and awards for each boy. The Pack is able to pay these expenses by raising funds through the annual Popcorn Sales. Each fall, the boys and their families are asked to sell as much popcorn as they can. This is our main source of income and the only fundraiser we ask the boys to participate in.

Some of the events that our Pack participates in include: Swim parties, Fall Carnival, Popcorn Sales, Scouting for Food for the needy, Cake Decorating Contest, Pinewood Derbies, Scout Sunday, Blue and Gold Banquet, Raingutter Regatta, Birdhouse Building Contest, Scout Shows and several Camping events.

Each boy will need to buy his own uniform (that can most often be worn for 2 or 3 years) and the Scout Handbook for his grade level. These can be purchased at the Northwest Texas Council Office in Wichita Falls, or on line at http://scoutstuff.org/bsasupply/
